Acquisitions carry the headline this week in the open source community. Both HP and Teradata took their wallets out and invested in strategic businesses. HP announced the acquisition of the cloud computing company Eucalyptus. Teradata followed up recent software acquisitions with the purchase of Think Big Analytics, a big data consulting firm. While Apple released their recent product updates this week, Red Hat released an enhanced Satellite offering which features new cloud support and Linux.com covered app development for Android wearable devices.
- HP doubled down on cloud computing with week, announcing its acquisition of Eucalyptus, an open source private and hybrid cloud company offering AWS compatibility. As part of the acquisition, Eucalyptus CEO Mårten Mickos will be joining HP as SVP and General Manager of the company’s cloud business. This news came on the heels of their new HP Helion OpenStack Professional Services portfolio of offerings.
